NL Community Garden Study

The Rural Secretariat Avalon Region, College of the North Atlantic, and the Food Security Network of Newfoundland and Labrador has hired Tony Brunetti, PhD, to study existing and potential community gardens throughout the province. The purpose of the study is four-fold:

1) to develop a network database of community garden projects;

2) develop a comprehensive how-to community garden manual that addresses all the important elements in establishing a garden anywhere in the province;

3) develop a 10-week course on community organic gardening; and

4) PowerPoint presentations for community garden advocacy and outreach.

Tony’s research entails conducting interviews and surveys of key representatives of as many community garden projects as possible by the end of March. Tony would greatly appreciate assistance from the ACORN NL community in identifying community garden projects anywhere in the province.

Please contact Tony directly – with contact information of people who have been involved in establishing community gardens – tony.brunetti@gmail.com, or call 709.764.3020.
